Inturist
Inturist

The building of the former “Inturist” cultural and information centre was constructed in 1986 according to a design by architect Vladimir Narubansky and is regarded as one of the brightest monuments of Tashkent modernism. Narubansky was joined on the project by architects V. Muratov and R. Valiyev, as well as engineer A. Ivanov.

The complex consists of a П-shaped block with offices and a cylindrical structure that housed a large and a small hall for meetings and events. The cylindrical part stands out due to its figured brickwork. The building features an inner courtyard with a decorative pool and an original sculpture; office doors open onto galleries running around the courtyard.

Originally, it housed the Club of International Friendship and the “House of Tourism” of the Inturist agency. After independence, the building accommodated the offices of the State Committee for Tourism Development of Uzbekistan.

In 2020, the Fund for the Development of Culture and Art announced the reconstruction of the building. After renovation, it is planned to host two cultural institutions — the French Cultural Centre and the Centre for the Restoration of Cultural Heritage Objects. Both were established on the initiative of the Fund, whose own office will also move here. Additionally, a library, co-working space, lecture hall, and theatre hall have been promised.
