The mosque, striking with its unusual lines, is located within Tashkent City Park. This distinctive and unique building, constructed in the early 20th century, was included by the renowned local historian Boris Golender in the series "Turkestan Modernism" — it remarkably harmoniously combines a traditional dome with architectural elements of European style, such as cornices above the windows.
For many years, the Arifjanbay
Mosque stood abandoned; from the 1930s to the 1980s, it housed a pharmacy, then
a warehouse, and expert analysis revealed the beginning of structural
deterioration. During the construction of Tashkent City, it was decided to
preserve and reconstruct the mosque, making it accessible to Tashkent residents
and visitors. A reconstruction project was developed in collaboration with
experts from the Ministry of Culture.
After the park’s opening, the
beautiful building with its fairy-tale minaret was handed over to artists. At
night, the building is beautifully illuminated. Currently, the building once
again serves as a mosque.
